Henthorn Fulfills Requirements for ABEM Certification Renewal

R. Bruce Henthorn, M.D. has successfully fulfilled the requirements for renewed certification of the Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) continuing as a Diplomate of this Board since 1989.

Initially ABEM certified in 1989 and subsequently re-certified in 1999 and 2009, Dr. Henthorn practiced full-time Emergency Medicine for 10 years at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Parkersburg, WV, before establishing a Family Medicine practice in 1994 in McConnelsville, Ohio with Marietta Physicians’ Health Care, Inc.

The American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) is one of 24 medical specialty boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Founded in 1976, ABEM develops and administers the Emergency Medicine certification examination for physicians who have met the ABEM credentialing requirements. The first certification examination was administered in 1980. ABEM has certified over 25,000 physicians since that time. Certification is for a period of ten years.

In addition to ABEM, Dr. Henthorn is a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, as well as Past President, Vice President and Board of Directors Member of the West Virginia Chapter of American College of Emergency Physicians.

A native of Paden City, WV, Dr. Henthorn graduated from West Virginia University Medical School in Morgantown, WV after which he did two years of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency at Charleston Area Medical Center, Charleston,WV.

Dr. Henthorn resides in Marietta with his wife Virginia. Their daughter Hillary is a sophomore at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, OR.
