Dog License Application Deadline Nearing

January 26, 2010

Dog licenses for 2010 are on sale in the County Auditor’s Office. Ohio law requires that every dog owner purchase a license for all dogs three months of age or older. The deadline this year for purchasing a dog license without a penalty is Monday, February 1, 2010.

The cost of a license is $12.00 per dog. Qualifying applicants who are professionally engaged in the breeding of dogs for hunting or sale may obtain a kennel license for $60.00 including five tags with a $1.00 fee per additional tag.

As a courtesy, the Auditor’s Office attempted to mail applications on November 30 to all owners with 2009 licenses. However, the failure to receive an application does not waive the owner’s responsibility to obtain a license in a timely manner.

Persons can acquire 2010 licenses by mail without receiving the application form by sending the license fee along with the owner’s name, address and phone number along with the dog’s age, sex, breed, color and length of hair to the Auditor’s Office at 205 Putnam Street, Marietta.

If you fail to meet the registration deadline, you will be subject to a penalty that is equal to the cost of the license. So, it is important that you register your dog on or before the February 1 deadline.

Proceeds from the sale of dog licenses are used to fund the operations of the Dog Warden and a part of the Humane Society with the remaining funds used to conduct the dog licensing process.

If you have any questions, please call the Auditor’s Office at 373-6623, ext 264.
