MacTaggart Department of Music presents trumpeter Turrill in concert

David Turrill, from the School of Music at Michigan State University, will present a trumpet recital at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 27 in Alma McDonough Auditorium on the campus of Marietta College.

The concert is free and open to the public.

The program includes Telemann’s Concerto No.3 in D Major and Haydn’s Concerto in E flat Major.

Contemporary works on the program are Joseph Turrin’s Three Legends and Nightsongs by Richard Peaslee. Peaslee has written extensively for theatre companies in London, New York City, and Paris as well as dance companies such as Pilobolus, New York City Ballet, and Twyla Tharp.

Turrill is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in trumpet performance at Michigan State. Active as a freelance trumpet player in the mid-Michigan area, he regularly performs with the Lansing and West Michigan Symphony Orchestras, among others, and is a member of Capital Brass, a professional chamber ensemble. He received his undergraduate degree in music education and master’s degree in trumpet performance and conducting from Ohio University.
