OVU Basketball Coaches vs. Cancer Game on Jan. 30

Ohio Valley University Basketball Coaches will be participating in the Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend on January 30.

The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) has partnered with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to encourage member coaches and their staff to wear sneakers with their suits at games held that weekend to show support for the Coaches vs. Cancer program. Suits and Sneakers unite coaches from across the country in the common effort to raise cancer awareness in their communities.

OVU’s coaches who are forgoing their dress shoes for white sneakers are Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Snell and Head Women’s Basketball Coach David Wadlington.
Fans and the community are encouraged to come out and support the OVU basketball teams and the Coaches vs. Cancer program. The women’s basketball game will be a home game Saturday, Jan. 30 at 2:00 p.m. against the University of Charleston. The men’s basketball game will begin at 4:00 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to wear sneakers to the games. Donations will be accepted at the door to help in the fight against cancer.

“Last year we had a really good response from the fans because most people either know someone who currently has cancer or who has lost the fight with cancer and this is a great way to show support for their loved ones and family,” OVU Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Snell said. “This will be the 13th year that I have participated in the Suits and Sneakers Awareness Weekend and I encourage the community to come out and wear sneakers to support this great cause. This year will be the first time that OVU will be collecting donations at Saturdays’ games to benefit the American Cancer Society.”

Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and communities to join the fight against cancer. Since the program’s inception in 1993, high school and basketball coaches across the United States have raised nearly $45 million to support the Society’s efforts to save lives from cancer.
